</span></b></span></div>French researchers from <a href="http://www.esiea.fr/c/en/Web.Esiea.Public.cuke?">ESIEA</a>, a French engineering school, have found and exploited some serious vulnerabilities in the TOR network. They performed an inventory of the network, finding 6,000 machines, many of whose IPs are accessible publicly and directly with the system’s source code. They demonstrated that it is possible to take control of the network and read all the messages that circulate.<br />
<br />
But there are also hidden nodes, the Tor Bridges, which are provided by the system that in some cases. Researchers have developed a script that, once again, to identify them. They found 181. "<i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">We now have a complete picture of the topography of Tor</span></i>," said Eric Filiol.<br />
<br />
The specific attack involves creating a virus and using it to infect such vulnerable systems in a laboratory environment, and thus decrypting traffic passing through them again via an unknown, unmentioned mechanism. Finally, traffic is redirected towards infected nodes by essentially performing a denial of service on clean systems.<br />
<br />
Researchers showed that one third of the nodes are vulnerable, "<i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">sufficient in all cases so that we can easily infect and obtain system privileges</span></i>," says the director. Researchers clone then a part of the network in order not to touch the real network, and they make a virus with which they will be able to take control of the machine."<i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">This allows us to set the encryption keys and readers initialization of cryptographic algorithms and thus cancel two layers of encryption on all three</span></i>," says Eric Filiol. The remaining flow can then be decrypted via a fully method of attack called "<b>to clear unknown</b>" based on statistical analysis.<br />
<br />
To guide communication to nodes infected, researchers make unavailable all other nodes. To do this, they apply a double attack: localized congestion, which involves sending a large number of requests Tor on uninfected machines, and spinning the packet, which will enclose Tor servers in a loop circuit to fill them. The Tor protocol will then, naturally, to route calls to infected machines, and that's it.<br />
<br />
However, if it is real, details are to be presented at <a href="http://h2hc.org.br/">Hackers to Hackers</a> in São Paulo on October 29/30-2011. TOR is no more than an additional layer of obfuscation and should not be relied upon for anonymity or security. Like any darknet, it is a complement to application-layer encryption and authentication, no more.</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00307104748964359505noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5205085372498238215.post-2668441425981431432011-10-12T23:14:00.000-07:002011-10-12T23:21:18.315-07:00Dennis Ritchie co-creator of C and Unix dies at 70Dennis Ritchie known as the co-creator of C and Unix has died at the age of 70 . Qt allows applications developed in to to be run independent of the platform ( Desktop , phones etc etc ) .</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span">The move is one of the many inconsistent decisions made by Nokia over the years since the rise of Android and iOS, to protect its user base and expansion options . While android bought profits to a sinking Motorola and lead to cheap smartphones , Symbian bore the brunt of a rapidly burgeoning android market share , shedding share like ice cream melting in the heat. Nokia made a few erratic moves by merging its thriving base in maemo with the Mobiln distro from Intel ( another failed attempt in bringing Linux to the desktop masses through netbooks ) . Meego was abandoned by Nokia once again after its partnership with Windows through which it received 1.2 billion USD . Even now it is still doubtful if Nokia can get back its market share it enjoyed in the hey days of Symbian.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span">The future of Meego (doubtful) was been buried completely following the announcement of Tizen, yet another Linux based OS ( so far no. 3 ) that will developed along with Intel, the LiMo foundation and the linux foundation .</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span">However with cheap feature phones and basic phones providing most of its income in third world countries , Nokia cannot choose to ignore its cash cow. With the arrival of Windows 7 based Nokia phones , Nokia can mount a serious challenge to the bastions of Android and iOS . However licensing costs that would come with win 7 means that low end market simply cannot be cheap enough and Nokia would still end up losing market share. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span">Enter Meltemi . Named after favorable winds in the Aegian Basin , meltemi would provide a Linux based OS for the low end phones using the Qt toolkit to develop apps and the OS itself . This also is sweet news to developers who hate writing apps in Java .</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span">While S40 made for a cheap platform , it is seriously behind the competition in terms of polish and features. A dated UI , and a lack of modern features has left s40 panting in the middle of the track .Though history proves otherwise with Nokia's record of inconsistency and bad decisions regarding Linux, Meltemi just might change the equation for Nokia if it can bring in a better UI , app development persuading people in the third worlds looking for better phones to stick with the Nokia camp. </span></div>Darklighterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10553075830639457908noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5205085372498238215.post-9434912849301503132011-09-03T11:48:00.000-07:002011-09-03T11:48:41.958-07:00HP Pulling the plug on touchpad<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

Its all over the news.HP is closing down its WebOS division and is pulling the plug on its Touchpad and other WebOS devices.The Palm Pre 3 which was to released this year has been cancelled .Currently HP is looking for buyers for its WebOS division. HP is also reportedly shutting down its Personal Computer Systems division (indeed you might have chanced upon the full page adverts in The Hindu) and is keen on selling it too and concentrate only on the enterprise and software market. The PCS division is supposed to value around 40 Billion USD.<br />
<br />
While WebOS did not turn out to the iPad Killer it was deemed to be , It wasnt a bad OS.WebOS is still one of the most advanced OSes for embedded devices in terms of process management and UI. Critics and user alike loved its card stack UI for handling process and simple clean interface.Had HP had some patience it could have improved on the WebOS , bringing it on par to Android and iOS. Closing down the WebOS division seems to be a desperate move . Nevertheless it can still salvage WebOS by open sourcing it or putting its development and maintenance in the hands of the open community.Not only would legacy devices and the TouchPad be supported, HP can still use it when it wants to come up with a Future iOS /Android killer. Projects like Linux and Debian really point the way towards the advantages of involving the community in development processes.
As far as the PC division is concerned, HP is making the same move IBM made in 2005 by selling its PC division to Lenovo.Granted things may have been better for PC's then.With the tablet wars and the Mobile era growing rapidly , PC's may no longer be the center of attention or innovation.Not that we will lose all the tower and LCD's in our home anytime soon.PC's still play a major role in developing countries and among power users as the computing device of choice.HP's move may make sense as it has more corporate customers and is planning on a transition to purely software and systems seller like IBM .<br />
<br />
Right now , it is too early to say whether the move made by HP is a clever one or one taken in desperation.Emerging trends , and HP's future strategy will decide the fate of the once largest PC maker on Earth. </div>

The attack will surely increase the pressure on law enforcement to find and arrest LulzSec members. So far, U.K. police have arrested one teen, who the group says was only <a href="http://www.pcworld.com/article/230873/lulzsec_downplays_arrest_of_hacking_suspect.html" style="clear: none; color: #1c609f; list-style-type: none; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none;">loosely-affiliated</a>.</div><div style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px; list-style-type: none; margin-bottom: 10px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The U.S. government has said that cyber-attacks may be considered <a href="http://www.pcworld.com/article/229068/us_government_says_cyber_attacks_may_be_acts_of_war.html" style="clear: none; color: #1c609f; list-style-type: none; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none;">acts of war</a>, a declaration that seems to have only encouraged LulzSec to continue its operations. A high-rated Firefox extension with more than 7 million downloads secretly collects data about every website the open-source browser visits and combines it with uniquely traceable information tied to the user, an independent security researcher said.<br />
The undisclosed behavior of the <a href="https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloader-player/" target="_blank">Ant Video Downloader and Player</a> add-on takes place even when the Firefox private browsing mode is turned on or when users are availing themselves of anonymity services such as <a href="https://www.torproject.org/" target="_blank">Tor</a>. The add-on carries a rating of four out of five possible stars and gets an average of almost 7,000 downloads per day, according to <a href="https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/statistics/addon/8174" target="_blank">official Mozilla statistics</a>.<br />

It looks like a video , but it is not a video , it is html5 magic ... <br />

<br />
Hi Guys , A new service started by Bharti Airtel will let any mobile phone user to access Facebook for just a rupee a day. The beauty of this service is that it works on virtually any GSM mobile phone, even if it is not internet-enabled.<br />
<br />
This new service makes use of USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) service, which is a protocol used by GSM to communicate with service provider s computers. Those who have had mobile phones for over a decade, may remember that USSD had been in use in the form of WAP-over-SMS to access mobile internet in phones not supporting any form of internet connectivity.<br />
<br />
Due to the limitations of the technology, the interactivity is also limited to status updates, "friend" requests and posting text on walls. While Facebook is the dominant social networking website globally, it is still in second place in India behind Google's Orkut, which is still in leading comfortably. But Facebook is fast gaining popularity and moves like these may only serve to its advantage.<br />
<br />
Currently, only Bharti Airtel offers a service such as this, but we may soon find other GSM service providers follow suit</span></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00307104748964359505noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5205085372498238215.post-14488901891038960212011-04-05T05:36:00.000-07:002011-04-05T05:36:17.765-07:00See who’s poking your Linux box<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;"></span><br />

It lacks multimedia dexterity: Firefox doesn't yet support Flash and cannot access a surprising amount of HTML5 content. And if you're reading this on an Android tablet, this fox isn't available on Honeycomb, yet. For Mozilla users who prize synchronicity, the Release Candidate is worth a click; however, for anyone who isn't wedded to Firefox on the desktop, hold out for additional support.</div><div style="border-bottom-style: none; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-style: none; border-width: initial; border-width: initial; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 9px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><img alt="Firefox 4 RC (for Android)" src="http://common2.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/29/0,1468,i=296298,00.jpg" /></div><div style="border-bottom-style: none; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-style: none; border-width: initial; border-width: initial; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 9px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><b>The Big Picture on the Small Screen</b><br />
Mozilla has bred a leaner fox with keener eyes. Firefox dedicates the entire screen to web pages. Swiping from the right bezel towards the screen reveals a tray with navigation buttons (back and forward), settings, and a star icon for single-click bookmarking. Under settings, you can manage downloads, add Add-ons—though, with about 150 in total, mobile availability is still limited—and adjust settings. For those accustomed to the stock browser's wrap text feature, Mozilla's "Reformat on zoom" option is a must-enable.</div><div style="border-bottom-style: none; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-style: none; border-width: initial; border-width: initial; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 9px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Closing the tray and returning your web page is as easy as swiping towards the bezel. Swiping on the left side of the screen reveals a tray with your open tabs and a folder stuffed with browsing history and bookmarks. And whether you're in the left or right tray, a search bar drapes from top of screen, complete with mobile Add-ons (in this case, search options) for Google, Amazon, Twitter, and Wikipedia. Compared to the stock browser, which requires you to use the phone's physical buttons to navigate between windows or explore history, Mozilla has created a more elegant and intuitive solution.</div><div style="border-bottom-style: none; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-style: none; border-width: initial; border-width: initial; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 9px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><b>Phone Home, Home Phone</b><br />
In addition to its streamlined interface, Firefox Sync is the definitive enticement to download the mobile Release Candidate. The process is simple. From the latest version of the desktop client, sign up for a free account and synchronize data through the Sync pane in Firefox settings. To access that data on your phone, open your mobile settings and Enable Sync. Mozilla gives you a code to input on your desktop to pair the two. Voilà: all of your desktop preferences, saved passwords, bookmarks and history flow into your mobile client; conversely, mobile changes appear at home. The other key enhancement for Android users occurs under the hood. In <a href="http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/mobile/4.0/releasenotes" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; color: #0055ff; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank">the release notes</a>, Mozilla claims to have improved startup speed and page load times. For the most part, it's true.</div><div style="border-bottom-style: none; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-style: none; border-width: initial; border-width: initial; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 9px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">I tested Firefox 4 RC on a Spring HTC Evo 4G running the most current available version of Android (2.2) with the latest version of Adobe Flash (10.2); I used two preliminary JavaScript benchmark tests: SunSpider (0.9.1) and Google V8 (version 6). In the SunSpider test where a lower score is desirable, Firefox led the pack (3080.4 ms), followed by Opera (4133.2) and the stock browser (4564.2). When it came to the V8 test, however, results mixed: the stock browser took the lead (310), with Firefox (296) nipping its heals, and Opera (179) playing the role of laggard. In real-world use, it feels a whole lot closer. Firefox is quick, but not quick enough to replace the stock browser.</div><div style="border-bottom-style: none; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-style: none; border-width: initial; border-width: initial; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 9px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><b>…At a Cost</b><br />
That added octane doesn't come cheaply. According the release notes, Mozilla disabled Adobe Flash and other plugins because it "compromised user experience." Compared to both Opera Mobile 11 and the stock browser, through which I browsed and played Flash videos—if sluggishly—Firefox webpages looked like Swiss cheese. Add to Flash-less-ness the browser's limitations with HTML5 video (lacking H.264 support), and even the New York Times homepage starts to look patchy. If you're looking to view any web video on the go, I'd highly recommend waiting for the Gold Master, in which Mozilla might permit users to enable video plugins, even if it does "compromise user experience."</div><div style="border-bottom-style: none; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-style: none; border-width: initial; border-width: initial; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 9px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><b>This Fox is Still a Kit</b><br />
Firefox 4 RC for Android transfers to the mobile browser much of what invigorated the desktop client, including a fresh new look with a speedier engine, Add-ons, and Firefox Sync. Unfortunately, those valuable new features enter <i>in medias res</i>. The new look is welcome, but the speed bump comes at the cost of multimedia dexterity. While mobile Add-ons hold promise, there aren't enough available (yet) to customize the browser. And Firefox Sync is an exciting addition, but its value only extends to Mozilla faithful. If Firefox is your default desktop browser, the latest version of Firefox for Android grows that experience, though I would recommend waiting a little bit longer until this fox finds its legs.</div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00307104748964359505noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5205085372498238215.post-46211604905465891622011-03-10T02:56:00.001-08:002011-03-10T02:56:23.547-08:00GNOME.Asia Summit 2011<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">It is a great pleasure to announce that public registration [1] for the GNOME.Asia Summit 2011 [2] is officially opened. About GNOME.Asia Summit<br />
<br />
GNOME.Asia Summit is an annual conference for GNOME users and developers in Asia. The event focuses primarily on the GNOME desktop and other devices that use GNOME, and also covers GNOME-based applications and GNOME development platform tools. It brings together the GNOME community in Asia to provide a forum for users, developers, foundation leaders, governments and businesses to discuss both the present technologies and future developments. GNOME.Asia Summit has been held in Beijing, China in 2008 and Ho-Chi-Minh City, Vietnam in 2009. The summit has been recognized as one of the top three FLOSS conferences in China in 2008 by the Chinese government, the biggest FLOSS conference in Vietnam in 2009 by the Vietnamese government and one of the biggest FLOSS conference in Taiwan in 2010.<br />

And the IP address of the router is often 192.168.x.1 and they almost always have their administrative web interfaces running on port 80 or 443.</span></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 1.2em; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #eeeeee;">These two trends can be exploited to guess the private IP address of the user in two steps:</span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #eeeeee;"><b style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Step 1:</b> Identify the user’s subnet <br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />This can be done by scanning port 80 and/or 443 on the IP addresses from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.255.1. If the user is on the 192.168.3.x subnet then we would get a response for 192.168.3.1 which would be his router and thus the subnet can be identified. <br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><b style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Step 2:</b> Identify the IP address <br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />Once the subnet is identified we scan the entire subnet for a port that would be filtered by personal firewalls, port 30000 for example. So we iterate from 192.169.x.2 to 192.168.x.254, when we reach the IP address of the user we would get a response (open/closed) because the request is generated from the user’s browser from within his system and so his personal firewall does not block the request.</span><div class="title" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: initial; background-image: url(http://www.andlabs.org/img/bgh1.gif); background-origin: initial; background-position: 0% 100%; background-repeat: repeat no-repeat; font-size: x-large; margin-bottom: 5px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 5px; padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 6px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #eeeeee;"><a href="" name="limit" style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none;"></a>Limitations:</span></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 1.2em; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #eeeeee;"><b style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Blocked Ports:</b><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />To avoid Cross Protocol exploitation almost all popular browsers block connections to <a href="http://www.mozilla.org/projects/netlib/PortBanning.html" style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: underline;">certains well known ports</a>. Opening multiple simultaneous connections interferes with this timing leading to unreliable results. Hence to avoid such situations all scans are performed one port at a time.</span></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 1.2em; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #eeeeee;"><b style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Internal Networks Only:</b><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />As stated above, timing is critical to identification of port status. Depending on the location of the target device this timing could vary. JSRecon has been tuned to scan internal networks with very low turn around time. Scanning external networks would require only two minor changes - values of the variables open_port_max and closed_port_max must be suitable updated.</span></div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00307104748964359505noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5205085372498238215.post-17612663853634682492011-03-01T09:34:00.001-08:002011-03-01T09:34:36.437-08:00Ubuntu Developer Week 2011: February 28th - March 4th<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">The Ubuntu Developer Week event will take place from February 28th to<br />

At just $179—inexpensive for an unlocked device—the Nokia C3-01 offers plenty of power for world travelers, or anyone who wants a svelte device that works with AT&T, T-Mobile, or prepaid SIM cards. The Nokia C3-01 Touch & Type looks and feels classy. It measures 4.4 by 1.9 by 0.4 inches (HWD) and weighs 3.5 ounces. The aluminum housing and tapered battery cover make the C3-01 comfortable to hold for long periods. My test model was silver; a charcoal gray version is also available. The 2.4-inch, plastic resistive touch screen sports 240-by-320-pixel resolution. Unlike the larger <a class="" href="http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2380078,00.asp" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; color: #0055ff; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Nokia C6</a> ($249, 2.5 stars), the C3's screen was accurate and responsive to my touches. That makes it perfect for overseas travel, as the C3-01 can hit high-speed data networks both here and in many other countries. Nokia doesn't publish a CPU spec for the C3-01, but the phone feels much more responsive than the admittedly more ambitious Nokia C6 does.</div><div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: 400; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Otherwise, you get a fairly standard software complement for a Series 40 phone. Nokia's WebKit browser is a newer addition, and it's pretty usable, but the low screen resolution and small size mean that you're better off sticking with WAP pages. There are built-in Nokia Messaging e-mail, IM, and threaded SMS apps. All are reasonably powerful, but considering the phone's numeric keypad, the "Type" portion of the C3-01's name is a bit of a stretch. Get something with a QWERTY keyboard or larger touch screen if you plan on handling a lot of e-mail. There's also no GPS, so keep that in mind.</div><div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: 400; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><b>Multimedia, Camera, and Conclusions</b><br />
The standard-size 3.5-mm headphone jack is welcome. Nokia buried the microSD card slot underneath the battery cover, but accessing it was easy enough; my 32GB SanDisk card worked fine. There is only 23MB of free internal memory. Music tracks sounded clear and full over <a class="" href="http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2339595,00.asp" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; color: #0055ff; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Motorola S9-HD</a> Bluetooth headphones ($129, 3.5 stars). The music player was fun to use and displays large album art thumbnails. There's also an FM radio. There are no options to buy music over the air, but that's not a huge loss. Standalone videos played smoothly in full-screen mode and looked sharp, although the 2.4-inch LCD is a limiting factor for video playback.</div><div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: 400; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">The 5-megapixel camera comes with an LED flash, though it lacks auto-focus. Test photos looked very good: sharp, natural, and well lit both indoors and out. Shutter speeds were fast, and it was easy to navigate the camera's various settings. Nokia includes image rotation, color, and contrast controls for some basic on-device photo editing. Recorded 640-by-480-pixel videos were a little jerky at 15 frames per second, but they were usable.</div><div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: 400; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">All told, the Nokia C3-01 Touch & Type is a great second phone for use overseas, or for anyone that doesn't like being tied to a contract here in the U.S. The <a class="" href="http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2362425,00.asp" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; color: #0055ff; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Sony Ericsson Naite</a> ($149, 4 stars) is still a fine choice, and it's $30 cheaper. But you lose the touch screen and standard-size headphone jack, and the Naite doesn't have nearly as good a camera as the Nokia C3-01. If you want a QWERTY keyboard, the <a class="" href="http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2375524,00.asp" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; color: #0055ff; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Nokia E5</a> ($229, 3 stars) offers a pretty comfortable one, plus GPS, and its Series 60 OS makes it a real smartphone that runs thousands of third-party apps. It also lacks a touch screen, though, and it's made of plastic instead of aluminum. Worse, the OS is a lot more complicated; existing Symbian fans will take to the E5, but everyone else will have an easier time with the C3-01.</div><div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: 400; font: normal normal normal 12px/20px verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><b>Benchmarks</b><br />
